Landing at the MGM Music Hall in Fenway, Boston, Major II once again brings together the best CoD teams to put their FPS skills to the ultimate test. With home advantage to the Boston Breach, they’re aiming to grab the biggest slice of the bumper $500,000 prize pot that’s up for grabs.
The teams playing at CoD League: Major II
The 12 best Call of Duty teams return to take part in the second leg of the CoD League. Here’s how the league currently stands after Major I:
- New York Subliners
- Toronto Ultra
- Atlanta FaZe
- Seattle Surge
- Minnesota Røkkr
- Los Angeles Thieves
- Vegas Legion
- Florida Mutineers
- OpTic Texas
- Los Angeles Guerrilas
- Boston Breach
- London Royal Ravens
The New York Subliners rallied in Raleigh, where after finishing just ninth during the qualifiers, they ended up defeating the Seattle Surge in the Grand Final.
Last year’s defending champions, the LA Thieves, didn’t get off to the best start at Major I, but this team is always seen as one of the strongest contenders around. The same can be said for Atlanta FaZe. Beaten in last year’s Grand Final, Atlanta FaZe is regarded as one of the greatest CoD teams in history – and they hope to further add to this legacy by going all the way in this year’s CoD League.
How CoD League: Major II works
Qualifiers for CoD League: Major II take place between 13 January and 29 January. These qualifiers, where each match is a best of five, determine the placements for the Tournament Weekend (2-5 February). Each team plays four matches during the qualifiers in a standard league setting.
Once the Qualifier Standings are set, the 12 teams are split into brackets for Group Play. The top eight teams end up in the Winners Round 1, while the bottom four are sent to Elimination Round 1.
The four teams that lose in Winners Round 1 will drop to Elimination Round 1. The four victors from Winners Round 1 progress to Round 2. Again, the two teams that lose drop down to the Elimination bracket, while the two winners move to the Winners Finals. The winner of this progresses to the Grand Final.
In comparison, there are five Elimination rounds in total. The winner of the Elimination bracket gains entry to the Grand Final.
The prizes up for grabs
With such a stellar line-up of COD teams participating, it shouldn’t be a surprise there are major cash and points prizes available. Here’s how it works based on placements following bracket play:
Place | Prize (dollars) | CDL Points |
1st | $200,000 | 65 |
2nd | $120,000 | 50 |
3rd | $80,000 | 40 |
4th | $40,000 | 30 |
5th-6th | $20,000 | 20 |
7th-8th | $10,000 | 10 |
10 CDL points are also handed out for qualifier stage wins. With these points contributing to the overall regular season standings, each team will be hoping to accumulate enough to finish within the top eight for CoD League’s Championship Weekend in August 2023.
