Hearthstone has experienced some changes with the new rank system. It is debuted in the expansion pack, Ashes of Outland, along with one of the new classes, the Demon Hunter. With this release, a new ranked system was also introduced on 7 April 2020. In this article, we have created a detailed guide by delving into the Hearthstone ranking system.

Most players playing Hearthstone aim to move up from the bottom rank to the top Legend. With this new ranked system, all you have to do is play ranked matches continuously. Because the key to reaching high ranks is to play highly ranked matches. Let’s take a look at the details of our article together.

Hearthstone New Rank System

One of the things that players complained about the most in Hearthstone was the MMR and matchmaking system. The Hearthstone community complained that the matchmaking system was unfair. However, this problem seems to have been overcome in line with the new updates.

If you look at the picture above in detail, you can see that there are now more than one rank in the game. Now, when the game is reset every season, all players will try to climb the Legend, starting from the Bronze rank. Like the old ranked system of Hearthstone, the new system also has a “Win Streak” event. So if you win more than one match in a row, you can jump your rank in twos.

With this new ranked system, players now need to play more matches and win more. But Hearthstone has included dozens of rewards in the system to satisfy players.

What Are Hearthstone Ranks?

There are currently 6 ranks in the game. Except for Legend, other ranks also have a total of 10 sub-ranks. Now let’s take a look at the details of the ranks step by step.

Bronze

Bronze rank players are generally people who are just beginning to learn the game and are interested in card games. If you are new to the game, we would like to say that you will not stay in the Bronze rank for long. Also, if you plan to start a new game with the season, we definitely do not recommend it. Because everyone’s rank is reset, you can come across the same lobby with high-level players.

Silver and Gold ranks are the two ranks with the most players. Silver consists of many players willing to learn the game. If you want to get out of this rank, you must keep playing the game continuously. Do not forget that you can learn the game only by playing.

If you have risen to the Gold rank, you have now started to learn some things in the game. Most players at this rank usually use other people’s decks. While this is a common mistake, it can sometimes work. However, if you want to get out of this rank, you have to set your own strategies.

How Does the Hearthstone League System Work?

Now let’s look at the other details of the Hearthstone ranking system step by step and interpret it.

  • As you can see now, there are 5 ranks in the game now. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.
  • Each rank has 10 sub-tiers. In addition, everyone who starts the game with the new season will start at Bronze 10.
  • When you start to rise in rank and when you come to Rank 10 and Rank 5, you will now secure yourself. So even if you lose a match, you will never be demoted from these ranks.
  • You have to get 3 stars to jump a rank. This is something we are already familiar with from the old Hearthstone ranking system. In short, if you want to upgrade from Gold 10 to Gold 9, earning 3 stars is a must.

Details of the Hearthstone MMR System

The MMR system, which is the main mechanic of the Hearthstone ranking system, works in 3 modes in the game. These modes are;

  • Casual (Wild and Standard format)
  • Ranked matches
  • Tavern Brawls (except cooperative Brawls)

Your MMR in a game mode is independent of other game modes. So your MMR in Arena will never affect your MMR in ranked. At the same time, MMR scoring in general is hidden and cannot be observed by players. Let’s take a closer look at the Hearthstone MMR structure.

legend rank
  • MMR classically increases with a win and decreases with a loss.
  • The amount of MMR points you earn or lose depends only on your opponent’s MMR. So if you beat a player with a higher MMR than you, you will earn higher points. Again, if you lose to a player with a higher MMR score, you will lose much less MMR points. It seems so even.
  • Likewise, if you beat a player with a much lower MMR than you, you will earn less points. Finally, if you lose to a player with a lower MMR point than you, your MMR point will decrease even more.
  • Ranked match MMR value does not reset at the beginning of each season. These are your ranks that are reset every season.
  • The MMR scoring system is absolutely unaffected by game time or other stats.
