After a gloomy winter and not-so-exciting spring, the season we’ve all been waiting for is just around the corner. Yep, summer is almost here. In the League of Legends community, that means one thing: LEC Summer 2023 time! Finally, LoL fans from Europe to Asia will get to enjoy the highly-anticipated LEC Summer tournament — but what’s in store? Let’s do a deep dive into this season’s LEC 2023 and what you can expect from the split, including teams, fixtures, and a LEC betting guide.

What is the LEC?

The LEC has undergone some big changes and is now known as the League of Legends EMEA Championship.

It’s the top-level division for competitive League of Legends across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The best teams from these regions compete throughout each season to be the best, win cash prizes, and ultimately qualify for the LoL World Championship (Worlds) that takes place from October to November.

Right now, there are 10 teams in the LEC. These teams are:

  • KOI (rebranded from Rogue)
  • Fnatic
  • Team Heretics
  • G2 Esports
  • Excel Esports
  • Team Vitality
  • MAD Lions
  • SK Gaming
  • Team BDS
  • Astralis

If you’re wondering why Misfits Gaming isn’t here anymore, it’s because they’ve left the League of Legends professional league and sold their spot to Team Heretics for the LEC 2023 season.

All 10 teams last competed at LEC Spring 2023. Here, MAD Lions defeated Team BDS 3-2 by pulling off an insane reverse sweep, which came as a little bit of a surprise to most fans watching at home. Nevertheless, it was a huge moment for the MAD Lions and will give them the world of confidence heading into LEC Summer 2023.

Currently, all of the rosters are enjoying a mid-season break before LEC Summer 2023 arrives. When they come back, they’ll be refreshed, hungry, and ready to compete again. Make no doubt about it; LEC Summer 2023 is going to be epic

LEC Summer 2023 Guide

So, what’s going to happen at LEC Summer 2023? The truth is, anything can happen. For now, though, let’s run through all the important information you need to know about it.

When Does LEC Summer 2023 Start and End?

LEC Summer 2023 starts on June 17 and concludes on July 30.

During this time, lots of exciting matches will take place between all of the above-mentioned teams, from Fnatic to Astralis.

Where is LEC Summer 2023 Taking Place?

The LEC Summer Split and LEC EMEA Championship Finals matches will happen at the LEC Studio in Berlin, Germany. If you’re a German native, this is great news — so long as you act fast, you’ll be able to get tickets to watch in person. For anyone who isn’t in Germany, you’ll have to fly there to watch in person or (alternatively) stream the action from home.

Where to Watch LEC Summer 2023?

If you decide that you want to stream all of the LEC Summer Split 2023 action online, then you have 3 options:

  • lolesports.com
  • Twitch (LEC)
  • YouTube (@LEC)

Remember, you can easily switch between these 3 platforms depending on where you are and which device you’re using. For example, if you stream LEC matches on Twitch, you might find that they run more smoothly compared to when you watch on the LoL Esports website. Generally, it’s a good idea to experiment and see which one works best for you!

How to Buy Tickets for LEC Summer 2023?

You can buy tickets for LEC Summer 2023 starting from May 26 at 5 PM CEST when tickets go live at emeatickets.lolesports.com. All of the tickets available are for the matches in Berlin. It’s important to let you know, though, that the tickets will sell out insanely fast. You cannot reserve tickets. It’s simply a case of who can load up the website quickest and pay first. This is why most LoL fans are setting alarm reminders on their smartphones and will be glued to their seats come 5 PM on May 26.

LEC Summer 2023: Format

This is the first year that the LEC Summer Split will take place under the brand-new League of Legends EMEA Championship branding, so you can expect it to be extra special. The format will remain the same, though, so here’s how it’ll go down:

Regular Season

Each team plays each other once in a Single Round Robin format. The top 8 teams will then proceed to the Group Stage — which is where things start to get even more tense.

Group Stage

The 8 teams that made it through to the Group Stage are split into 2 groups that follow the GSL format. In a nutshell, the first 2 games of the group are played as normal before the winning team goes to the winners’ bracket, and the losing team goes to the losers’ bracket — simple.

The top 2 teams from each group will then advance to the Playoffs. The 1st place teams will be seeded into the Winners Final, and the 2nd place teams will be seeded into the Losers semi-final.

Playoffs

The playoffs follow a nice and easy Double Elimination format. The winner of the tournament will then secure an all-important spot at the LEC Finals 2023.

Who Will Win LEC Summer 2023?

One of the leading favorites to win LEC Summer 2023 is Team BDS because they finished with the highest ranking at LEC Spring 2023. Plus, BDS has significantly strengthened over the summer, and many fans are expecting them to head into LEC Summer 2023 with a major point to prove after their devastating loss to MAD Lions at LEC Spring 2023.
