History of Team Liquid

Before we get to all the teams and players in Liquid, let’s take a trip down memory lane with a brief history of the iconic esports organization.

The Beginning

It all started with StarCraft: Brood War, the iconic RTS from Blizzard Entertainment, and Team Liquid’s Battle.net clan. The organization was established in 2000 in the Netherlands while esports was still a fledgling pastime. On May 1, 2001, TeamLiquid.net launched and gained traction.

The organization branched out slowly but steadily, creating Liquipedia and adding more popular esports titles to its ever-growing roster. For example, Liquid switched to StarCraft II during the game’s beta in 2010 and only announced a CS:GO division on January 13, 2015.

Massive Growth

Team Liquid branched out into other esports titles throughout the years, including League of Legends, CS:GO, and Rainbow Six Siege. Liquipedia’s expansion progressed at a steady pace, and the organization as a whole grew massively from that single StarCraft: Brood War clan to a bustling, multi-discipline enterprise.

Team Liquid eventually launched a video/content production studio 1UP Studios, an influencer management agency, Liquid Media, and support for their talented gaming athletes. This significant growth attracted investments, and since September 2016, the esports and gaming investment platform aXiomatic, has had a controlling interest.

Recent Years of Liquid

Team Liquid is at the forefront of the esports industry. It’s one of the oldest esports organizations and arguably the most recognizable name in the industry. The organization operates out of its headquarters (Alienware Training Facility) in Utrecht, Netherlands, and its incredible esports facility in Los Angeles, U.S.

According to the organization, there are plans for future investments in esports athletes, infrastructure, and facilities. To put recent growth into a monetary perspective, their worth grew by an estimated $38 million in 2021.

There is no doubt that the future for Team Liquid looks bright indeed.

Liquid’s Greatest Accomplishments

For nearly two decades, Team Liquid has moved from strength to strength. To put it lightly, the organization has had a slew of magnificent accomplishments over the years.

First off, Liquipedia is the most-used esports-focused Wiki Network in the world. Team Liquid is also the esports organization worth the most at an estimated $440 million as of May 2022. It has built up a reputation for being at the top of several esports scenes, but two accomplishments stand out for us.

Dota 2 Wins

Team Liquid’s Dota 2 squad won The International 2017 and the lion’s share of the record-setting $24,787,916 USD prize pool, then made it to the grand final of The International 2019.

Team Liquid CS:GO Wins

Their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) squad had one of the best runs in the game’s storied history, winning several tournaments in a row in 2019, along with the coveted Intel Grand Slam.

While these are the most remarkable accomplishments, there’s a plethora of other trophies under the Liquid banner. We’re sure there are plenty more to come. Let’s go, Liquid!

Team Liquid Dota 2 Squad
